Members of the College of Arts and Sciences gathered on May 2 in the Zone Club at Kyle Field on the Texas A&M University campus to celebrate exceptional faculty and staff during the college's second annual awards ceremony.
The college established its awards program to recognize and reward faculty and staff for their commitment to excellence, outstanding performance and selfless contributions. The variety of awards illustrates the breadth and depth of the newest and largest college at Texas A&M by highlighting the strength and potential of working together to realize individual and collective goals.
Each honoree received a monetary award and was presented with a plaque during the event.
When the Texas A&M administration established the college in September 2022, it consolidated three key legacy colleges — Geosciences, Liberal Arts and Science — as well as University Studies. Arts and Sciences educates about 13,000 undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students annually, and 50% of its teaching serves students who are majoring in degree programs offered through other Texas A&M colleges and schools.
In his remarks, Dean of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Biology Dr. Mark J. Zoran said excellence is a standard in the College of Arts and Sciences that is evident in the quality of its teaching, research and service.
"I would like to congratulate and thank our 2024 recipients for their many achievements and dedication to our college,” Zoran added. “The range of accomplishments and contributions across the humanities, natural sciences and social sciences we celebrate each year is a direct reflection of our college as the academic heart of Texas A&M and the result of many dedicated people who keep it beating."
Senior Executive Associate Dean and Professor of Anthropology Dr. Cynthia Werner presented the awards.
