Cyclotron Institute

The Cyclotron Institute is a major accelerator facility, jointly funded by the State of Texas and the Department of Energy, that carries out a program of basic research and education in both nuclear physics and nuclear chemistry. This program includes experimental and theoretical work in nuclear structure, nuclear astrophysics, fundamental interactions, nuclear dynamics, and atomic physics. Recent upgrades will significantly extend the Institute’s research capabilities as a stable beam facility with moderate rare ion beams. In addition, the Institute serves as one of the primary facilities in the country for the testing of space-bound microelectronic devices. Research is conducted on a wide variety of modern experimental equipment using accelerated ions from two cyclotrons – a newly refurbished K150 cyclotron and a superconducting K500 cyclotron.

Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering

Research within the IQSE involves faculty, students, and researchers within the Colleges of Science, Liberal Arts, Engineering, Veterinary Medicine, and Agriculture, which provides a unique opportunity to take advantage of and build upon the outstanding strengths of Texas A&M, melding them into an extraordinary interdisciplinary entity with national and international impact. Going beyond the conventional standard limits of modern science and technology, our research extends into such diverse fields as quantum philosophy, laser physics, national security, nanoscience, bioscience, improved navigation and global and stellar positioning, and quantum informatics, etc. with the underlying thread which ties all our research activities together being quantum optics and photonics.

Mitchell Institute for Fundamental Physics and Astronomy

The Mitchell Institute for Fundamental Physics and Astronomy was established in the summer of 2002, as the result of a generous gift from George and Cynthia Mitchell. The goals of the Institute are to explore and advance the understanding of theoretical high-energy physics, astroparticle physics, astronomy and cosmology, to conduct research in string theory, M-theory and particle phenomenology, and to explore the interface with observation in particle physics, astronomy and cosmology. The activities of the Institute will include Research Workshops, Conferences, and a Visitors’ Program.
