Develop a broad understanding of the ocean with a Master of Science in Oceanography. Oceanography is the interdisciplinary science that focuses on the ocean, its contents and its boundaries.
Whereas typical graduate programs progressively lead to more specialization, the oceanography program admits graduates of specialized areas and broadens their perspective with a core of required oceanography courses. Students with an undergraduate degree in biology, chemistry, geology, geophysics, mathematics, physics or engineering are good candidates for this program.
There are four specializations in the oceanography program:
- Biological oceanography
- Chemical oceanography
- Geological oceanography
- Physical oceanography
Core courses cover the program's areas of specialization and a communicating ocean science course.
After this exposure to the interdisciplinary nature of oceanography, you will refocus on a particular subject area to pursue research at the leading edge of the science.
