Computers and Software
Statistics and Bioinformatics majors will need a personal computer with access to and sufficient resources to run statistical computing software such as R and Python.
We recommend a late-model, full-featured Windows or Mac laptop with the following specifications:
Storage: 256GB SSD minimum (512GB recommended).
Memory: 8GB RAM minimum (16GB recommended for data-intensive projects).
Graphics: A dedicated GPU is optional and recommended only for advanced AI/machine learning workloads.
Both R and Python are free and open-source, and students will receive guidance on installing and using these tools in related courses.
