Howdy!

Our department is dedicated to advancing scientific understanding of the atmosphere through research, training the next generation of atmospheric scientists, and using our scientific expertise to serve the broader needs of government, industry and society.

As part of a public university, our fundamental mission is to educate students at all levels. To that end we offer a BS degree program in Meteorology and MS/PhD programs in Atmospheric Science. Our teaching facilities include two computer laboratories, the Aggie Doppler Radar (ADRAD), an aerosol lidar, the Weather Center, and an automated agricultural weather station. Our BS graduates work in weather forecasting, environmental consulting, and broadcasting, or choose to pursue graduate education. Our MS and PhD graduates pursue academic careers in colleges/universities, and research careers in government agencies such as NASA or NOAA, and private industry.

The department has twenty one faculty members, making it one of the largest atmospheric science departments in the United States. Our faculty’s diverse research areas include: atmospheric dynamics, boundary layer-surface interactions, climate dynamics & change, numerical modeling, atmospheric chemistry, aerosol-cloud interactions, synoptic & mesoscale meteorology, and radiative modeling & remote sensing. Our faculty bring their cutting-edge research to the classroom and have received national and international recognition for their work: seven of our faculty are Fellows of the American Meteorological Society and four are Fellows of the American Geophysical Union.

I encourage you to browse our website and learn more about the educational and research opportunities available within our department.

Sincerely,

R. Saravanan
