There are many opportunities for graduate students to receive funding in order to pursue of a doctoral degree at Texas A&M.
DEPARTMENTAL GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS
Full-time doctoral graduate students are often funded through departmental graduate assistantships. All funded graduate students serve as teaching assistants, and some have the opportunity to also serve as research assistants to graduate faculty in the department. An assistantship requires a student to work the equivalent of 20 hours/week. CMJR graduate assistants receive funds for tuition/fees and a 9-month stipend of $22,000. Additional summer teaching appointments are usually available.
UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCES FELLOWSHIPS
The Graduate and Professional School as well as the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas A&M University offer a number of competitive fellowships for outstanding applicants. These fellowships include: the College of Arts & Science Merit Fellowship, Lechner Fellowship, Avilés-Johnson Fellowship, and the Pathways to the Doctorate Fellowship. Fellowship candidates are nominated by the department, and prospective students do not directly apply for these awards. However, in order to be fully considered for these fellowships, completed applications for admission must be received by the department no later than December 1.
TRAVEL & RESEARCH GRANTS/FELLOWSHIPS
Graduate students in the Department of Communication & Journalism are expected to present research at academic conferences. In order to help defray the costs of travel associated with academic conferences and research, students have the opportunity to apply for a number of research and travel grants offered by the department, college, and university. These awards include (but are not limited to):
