Biography

Kayan Khraisheh is a doctoral student in the Department of Communication & Journalism at Texas A&M University. She graduated as valedictorian from Northwestern University in Qatar, with a Bachelor of Science in Media Industries & Technology and a certificate in Strategic Communication. Her research explores the intersection of culture, identity, and health within immigrant and diasporic communities. Some of her recent work investigates the health experiences of Arabs in the United States, highlighting the urgent need for increased cultural competency in the U.S. healthcare system. Another project analyzes the two Palestinian museums in the U.S., examining how they function as diasporic spaces that challenge dominant narratives and foster collective memory, identity, and resistance. As a graduate research assistant, she is working on a project about building Asian and Arab American Studies programs in the U.S. and the role of communication scholarship. She aims to combine multimodal and engaged methods in her research to create community-centered scholarship that actively engages and empowers the communities she works with. Her past creative projects include an award-winning short story and short documentary.
