About Undergraduate Advising

The Department of Economics has the best team of Undergraduate Academic Advisors that are here to help guide you through your academic career and equip you with the resources you need to achieve a balanced education at Texas A&M University. Email us or make an appointment so we can discuss your individual situation during advising hours or drop-ins. We are located on the first floor of the West Campus Social Sciences Building (WCSS) Suite 103.

What we will not Do

  • Make decisions for you - We advise so you can make a well informed decision and decide
  • Extend deadlines you missed - You are in college now, it's your responsibility to be on time 
  • Tolerate rude and disrespectful behavior - Sometimes we have to tell you no, or news you do not want to hear, but if you cross the line we have the right to stop the appointment
  • Advise on any major that is not Economics – Transition Academic Programs serves in that role
  • Act as your assistant
    • Schedule advising appointments – use the Navigate360 scheduling system
    • Register students – advisors review degree plan progression and recommend course schedule options [ex: economics elective + life & physical science + math, etc], selecting specific classes is the responsibility of the student.
    • Look up exact information you can Google – we will give you the information for you to do the research
  • Meet or correspond with anyone except the STUDENT regarding their academic record [see FERPA]

Our goal as an Academic Advising team is to prepare you for life after college in a professional setting as independent adults that problem-solve when given the tools and resources, meet deadlines, and produce quality work. Many undergraduate students need polishing for this transition in areas such as communication skills both oral and written, putting down the phone, time management, finding information on their own and controlling reactions to negative outcomes.

We view college as the last "safe place" to fail in these areas, but push our students to grow so they are ready to shine in their first professional role.

Contacting the Advising Team

  • Email us at econadvising@tamu.edu – we are always available by email and reply quickly!
    • Your OFFICIAL Texas A&M Email is required when emailing faculty and advisors
    • Your full name and UIN must be included
    • Allow a reasonable amount of time for email responses: 24 - 48 hours
      • Faculty and staff do not work on the weekends or holidays
      • We have large caseloads
      • Please only email one advisor, not all
    • You are responsible for monitoring your email daily, including holidays and breaks
    • Advisors cannot fix everything
      •  Deadlines will not be extended due to missing an email
  • Schedule an advising appointment through the Navigate360 scheduling system
  • Come to Zoom Drop-Ins on Thursday
  • Hang out in the Advising Suite between classes for some quiet study time – we have activity boxes with Legos, Play Doh, coloring books, and kinetic sand!

Rev's Reserve Food and Resource Pantry

Rev’s Reserve is a pocket pantry open to all students who are experiencing food insecurity. For additional information, please email us at econadvising@tamu.edu. 

Pocket Closet

The Pocket Closet in the Advising Suite has business casual to business professional clothing for career fairs or interviews for check out or to keep. Please contact econadvising@tamu.edu to set up a time to come check it out!
