The Jimmy D. Cain Excellence Awards recognize outstanding achievements in the fields of geomatics, geospatial techniques and/or applications for the energy industry, data integrity, and/or data management for undergraduate and graduate students at Texas A&M University. 

Awardees will each receive a $500 scholarship courtesy of the APSG Education Foundation. A total of six awards will be granted in 2020: four awards will be made to students at the undergraduate level, and two awards will be made to students at the graduate level.

Eligibility

Full-time students within 12 months of their graduation, currently enrolled at Texas A&M University within a geospatial or geoscience field are eligible to win this award. This award is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Application Materials

Any student who wishes to be considered for the Jimmy D. Cain Excellence Award should submit the following materials. The Jimmy D. Cain Awards committee will review applicants, choose winners, and make the announcement of the winners by Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

  1. Your personal information:

    1. Your name

    2. Your degree and major

    3. Your year of graduation

  2. A professional resume including:

    1. GPA

    2. Internships

    3. Conference presentations, etc.

  3. A one- to two-page personal statement addressing the following items (at a minimum):

    1. Why are you passionate for a career in geomatics, geospatial techniques and/or applications for the energy industry, data integrity, and/or data management?

    2. How have you demonstrated your interest in a career in geomatics, geospatial techniques and/or applications for the energy industry, data integrity, and/or data management?

    3. What outstanding achievements have you accomplished? Are there any really excellent projects that they've done or recognition you’ve received through your school years at TAMU?

    4. How have you shown leadership, or demonstrated the desired capacity to be a future leader in the geospatial industry?

  4. If you have any of the following, please include them as well:

    1. Digitally available samples of your work - links that the committee can get to

    2. Volunteer work that you have done

    3. Recommendation letters from professors, employers, or advisors
