The Department of Geology and Geophysics at Texas A&M University is dedicated to the scientific study of the Earth and other planets, from fundamental processes that shape it to knowledge that benefits society.
Our graduates have made significant contributions to a variety of fields, including making advancements in the environmental and petroleum industries, understanding seismic hazards and contributing fundamental new knowledge about the physical, chemical and biological aspects of the Earth. Future Texas A&M geologists and geophysicists will be essential to our economy, environment and world.
The Department of Geology and Geophysics strives for a balanced program of research, undergraduate and graduate teaching, and outreach and service. The department offers three undergraduate degree programs — a Bachelor of Arts in Geology, a Bachelor of Science in Geology and a Bachelor of Science in Geophysics. We also offer a Certificate in Environmental and Engineering Geology. Graduate work in both geology and geophysics is offered at both the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy levels.
Research in the Department of Geology and Geophysics addresses fundamental questions about the processes and history of the solid Earth and applies this knowledge for the benefit of society. The research programs of many faculty are broadly interdisciplinary, blurring the boundaries between classical geological disciplines and also between fundamental and applied research.
