Master of Science in Psychological Sciences (Concentration in I-O Psychology)
The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences offers a STEM-designated master’s program in Psychological Sciences with a concentration in Industrial-Organizational Psychology. The program is delivered in-person on the College Station campus. The program is not designed to be a stepping stone to the PhD program.
In the terminal MS Psychological Sciences (or MSIOP) program at TAMU, we apply the science of psychology to the workplace through:
- High quality academic and professional training that adheres to the scientist-practitioner model and equips students for their I-O careers.
- Effective teaching, mentoring, research, and service of dedicated faculty who are focused on expanding the reach of their students.
- Through our outstanding students who are prepared to launch their careers in one of the fastest-growing occupations in the United States.
The Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology @ TAMU Difference
-
The curriculum balances scientific discipline with professional practice by emphasizing the application of psychological principles to human resource decisions. Courses and required internship also expose students to real-world client projects and professional development opportunities. The curriculum also adheres to the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology guidelines for graduate education.
-
Students receive training from nationally-recognized faculty in the I-O field who are highly committed to students’ learning and professional development.
-
The program attracts students from diverse academic, professional, and national backgrounds. As such, students benefit from varied perspectives, which contributes to an enriched learning experience. Students’ professional work experience ranges from 0 to 25 years and they come from a variety of undergraduate majors such as Business Administration, Computer Science, Economics, Government, Literature, Management, Marketing, and Psychology. Current students also hail from Brazil, Germany, Ghana, India, Japan, Nigeria, South Korea, Taiwan, and United States.
-
The cohesion between the master’s program and the I-O PhD program offers MSIOP students valuable networking opportunities. Students become part of the I-O network for the rest of their careers. Students also have access to the Aggie Network, one of the largest and most active alumni groups in the world with a network of about 400,000 current and former students.
-
Each new student is assigned an alumni mentor who can offer support and provide advice on professional development, I-O career readiness, and how to successfully navigate grad school challenges.
-
The MSIOP Buddy Program aims to ease the transition of new students to the program and University as senior student buddies offer helpful advice/support/suggestions/guidance and share experiences with their assigned new students.
-
Students can expect to develop strong relationships and work collaboratively with their peers due to the cohort-based nature of the program. The accelerated nature of the program makes for a relatively affordable program with a quicker return on investment.
-
This is a non-thesis program, meaning that students do not complete a thesis as part of their degree requirements. A thesis is not an option. However, because the program is affiliated with a premier I-O Psychology PhD program in a Tier 1 research institution, there may be nonobligatory opportunities to participate in the I-O psychology faculty’s research programs, as well as other faculty’s research programs in related areas outside of the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. Students interested in gaining research experience should discuss their interests with the Program Director and they may be able to pursue research through the Innovation[X] program, Aggie Research Program, and various research labs both within and outside the department.

Students experience the benefits of being part of a large institution with notable rankings, recognitions, and traditions. Texas A&M University is located in College Station, which is an ideal community for students and is often recognized on Best College Town rankings (including Forbes’ Top 10 list of best college towns). College Station is a strategic location that is only about 90 minutes from Austin and Houston and 3 hours from Dallas and San Antonio.
